The University of Benin has just launched one of its largest recruitment drives in years, and if you’re looking for a serious career opportunity in Nigeria’s public university system, this might be your moment.
A total of 361 roles are up for grabs; 349 academic and 12 non-academic positions, cutting across multiple disciplines and departments. Applications are open now and will close on Wednesday, September 4, 2025.
So whether you’re an aspiring lecturer, a seasoned professor, or you have administrative, healthcare, or even technical experience, there’s something in here for you.
So, what’s really going on?
This is massive and rare, probably one of the largest public recruitments carried out by a Federal University in recent times. Most universities release job slots in small numbers, usually department by department. But here, UNIBEN is casting a wide net. From Civil Engineering to Theatre Arts, from Nursing to Clerical Support, the university is hiring across all boards.
And as you might have guessed, probably, these positions come with structured salary grades according to the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC; i.e, CONTISS, CONMESS, CONHESS).
What Positions Are Open?

If you have a First Class Degree, you’re strongly encouraged to apply, especially for Graduate Assistant roles.
Being computer literate is mandatory across all levels.

Some of the roles open include for the non-academic staff includes; Confidential Secretary (I & II), Nursing Officer I, Medical Officer, Pharmacist, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Computer Operator III, Clerical Officer, Administrative Assistant, Senior Driver, Laboratory Assistant, and Office Assistant II.

Tips To Land Your Position of Choice
Now, here's the part most people miss, the part that separates “applied” from “employed.” In my 4 years of posting job vacancies on this platform, I've discovered that this is the section people miss the most: our invaluable tips on how to land a job. It’s not just about submitting your CV. It’s about making it count. So, how do you increase your chances of landing your position of choice with UNIBEN?
1. Only and only apply for a position you qualify for, nothing less!
The requirement is straight, and you can’t bend it. UNIBEN is clear on what they need. If you're applying for Lecturer I or higher, make sure your publications are peer-reviewed and clearly listed. If you’re aiming for Confidential Secretary I, show your shorthand/typing speed and years of experience.
2. Don’t freestyle your CV, follow the format
If you go off structure, your application could be set aside. Most large organizations and institutions like this use an Application Tracking System (ATS), and you could be easily filtered out if you refuse to adhere to the rules. So use the exact order and format the university has provided. It's not just a preference, it's a filter.
3. Get your referees ready, and do that now!
Reach out to your referees, and do that early. A strong referee can make a real difference, especially if they’re from your current or recent workplace. Tell them exactly what position you’re applying for so their letter can match your application.
Remember, the requirement said your referees should send their reports directly to the Registrar, using the applicant’s name and job title in the subject
4. Please provide proof of computer literacy.
Since it’s mandatory for every role, don’t just say “I am computer literate.” If you’ve done a course or have experience using tools/software in your job, include it in your CV with a certificate to back it up.
5. Mention teaching/research work where relevant
Even if it was NYSC tutoring, assistantship, or project supervision, it helps if you’re applying for academic roles. Be specific.
Mass recruitments like this don’t come around often, especially in federal universities. So whether you’re an academic looking to transition into full-time teaching and research, or a professional with skills to contribute administratively, this is the window.
UNIBEN has a reputation for serious academic standards, but also a culture of innovation and growth. If you're qualified and you’ve got something to offer, don’t just think about it, apply, and apply properly.
