Job Description
The Marine Operations Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth technical operation of offshore support vessels. The position focuses on coordinating daily vessel activities, enforcing regulatory and safety standards, facilitating logistics, and supporting audit readiness. This role works closely with both onshore departments and vessel crews, acting as the link between operational needs and compliance expectations.
Responsibilities
Daily Planning & Resource Coordination
- Review and validate daily vessel reports
- Monitor fuel consumption using FUELTRAX and escalate deviations
- Track and escalate outstanding client requests
- Liaise with internal departments to fulfill vessel support needs
Vessel Requisitions & Port Call Management
- Process material and service requisitions via the Port Captain
- Track port call activities and ensure timely resolution
- Coordinate with Supply Chain for prompt delivery of requisitions
- Conduct routine vessel visits and communicate management instructions
Crew Planning & Resource
- Ensure crew adherence to MLC 2010 rest hour rules
- Monitor completion of Crew Computer-Based Training (CBT) modules
Safety Planning & Monitoring
- Ensure daily Unsafe Condition/Act (UC/UA) reports from vessels
- Support onboard incident investigations
- Monitor safety drills, toolbox meetings, and CCTV footage
- Manage documentation for changes in operations, personnel, or equipment
Audit & Inspection Support
- Prepare vessels for pre-OVID, client inspections, and port call audits
- Facilitate the closure of audit and inspection action points
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure vessels receive current charts, publications, and memos
- Submit weekly JV trackers and monthly compliance reports
Requirements
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Operations, or related field
- Strong understanding of STCW and MLC compliance
- Familiarity with vessel types such as PSV, AHTS
Experience
- 3–5 years in a marine operations, technical coordination, or logistics role
- Prior experience working with offshore vessels and multi-disciplinary teams
- Knowledge of fuel monitoring systems like FUELTRAX
Skills – Technical & Functional
- Working knowledge of offshore operations, OVID, ISM code, and MLC requirements
- Ability to interpret technical documents, logs, and safety reports
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, reporting tools, and ERP systems
