Job Description

The Enumerator will support the Monitoring & Evaluation and/or Programs teams in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data. This includes conducting registrations, beneficiary verifications, and household surveys using either mobile devices or paper tools. The Enumerator ensures accuracy and proper handling of data while working under the supervision of Action Against Hunger staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct mobile or paper data collection depending on the activity
  • Transcribe and take notes from phone interviews when required
  • Ask questions clearly and as worded in the tools provided
  • Provide live translation of data collection tools
  • Adhere to trained survey methodologies
  • Ensure proper handling of mobile data collection devices
  • Report complaints or cases raised by beneficiaries to the accountability unit
  • Distribute feedback and complaint forms when needed
  • Provide daily feedback to field supervisors after each day of data collection
  • Interpret interview results when necessary and record responses accurately
  • Clarify unclear responses through appropriate probing

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate or Diploma in science, social sciences, or any related field
  • At least one prior experience in field data collection
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Knowledge of survey procedures and data quality techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of local community dynamics including gender and protection issues
  • Fluency in English and local languages including Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa, and Fulani (spoken and written)
  • Prior experience in interpretation and translation across multiple languages
  • Familiarity with smartphone-based data collection tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups
