You will oversee data enumerators, ensure compliance with ethical research standards, and coordinate the smooth flow of interviews and data submissions under the Malaria Market Analysis (MMA) survey project. Note: This same role is available in Abuja (FCT), Anambra, Borno, Kano, and Lagos State.

Purpose of Assignment

  • The selected supervisors will guide, monitor and supervise the data enumerators throughout the Malaria Market Analysis (MMA) data collection process. The data supervisor will ensure compliance of the data enumerators to all guidelines emphasised during the qualitative training exercise by the data enumerators.
  • Briefly, the supervisors will ensure data enumerators understand and comply with responsible conduct of research, comply with the MMA research methodology, adhere to Malaria Consortium safeguarding policy, communicate with study participants in socially and culturally acceptable ways, respect participants right and freedom to either give an informed consent (Agree to participate) or provide informed dissent (Decline participation) as appropriate in the study.
  • Supervisor will also ensure data enumerators use appropriate tools, submit accurate data and use the DC voice recorders to document the views of the participants throughout the study.

Scope of Work

  • Participate in capacity building activity on FGDs, KII, IDI study guides.
  • Participate in pretesting (Pilot testing of tools), discussion of data collection tools, role plays, and field simulation exercises).
  • Lead in survey participant confirmation and serve as first point of contact to address immediate challenges or provide oversite at the grassroot level and escalate challenges to MC as deemed appropriate.
  • Each state supervisor will oversee 4 data enumerators for the qualitative arm of the MMA survey.
  • Lead in interview schedule and allocation of qualitative interviews to enumerator pairs in the state using the approved population group stratifications.
  • Supervise data enumerators to ensure collection of quality and accurate data through periodic quality checks.
  • Review all in-depth interviews, key informant interviews and focus group discussions data for quality and alignment with study objectives before allocation for translation and transcription.
  • Provide a weekly and end of data collection report highlighting the community entry, data collection process, key challenges, lessons learn and recommendations to MC.
  • Participate in daily review meetings at the end of each field activity.
  • Report any field incidence to the project team for immediate action.
  • Take leadership assigning audio files for translation and transcription to data enumerators and collate the audio files and transcripts for submission to MC research Specialist after the qualitative survey.
  • Coordinate with the research specialist and other project team throughout the data collection process.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidates must have a Bachelors’ Degree in Statistics, Public Health or any medical related field with at least 3 years’ experience.
  • Strong evidence of prior participation in a qualitative survey specifically FGDs, KII and IDIs.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office package with good report writing skills.
  • Residency within the project implementation state and availability for the duration of the MMA survey exercise.
  • Candidate must not be a current employee of any government ministry or agency as at the time of recruitment.
  • Good understanding of research methodology.
  • Deep knowledge of the predominant local language of the state, residency within the state and proficiency in spoken and written English Language.
  • Excellent time management, leadership, coordination and organizational skills.

Deliverables:

  • Summary report of daily field activities collated from field enumerators.
  • Final Consultancy report for the states.
  • Collation of timesheets and other necessary documents for submission to national supervisor.
  • Total number of enrolled and schedule KIIs, IDIs and FGD sessions with participants ahead of the qualitative arm of the survey.
  • Submission of Translated study tools into predominant local language of the engaged resident state of the project.
  • Attend relevant state level debriefing with the SMEP on best practices and challenge mitigation as appropriate.
  • Collate the timesheets of all assigned data enumerators and submit them to the national supervisor.
