Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Assess financial transactions, including derivatives and product structures
  • Assess counterparty credit risk, including industry, legal, and country risk exposures
  • Spread, model, and interpret financial statements
  • Monitor financial covenants and overall credit risk reporting
  • Continuously evaluate and manage counterparties and facility performance
  • Support portfolio management by advising on lending policy development
  • Liaise with business units, divisions, and subsidiaries within the FirstRand Group
  • Engage with clients to understand business operations and risks
  • Perform both quantitative and qualitative risk assessments
  • Assign credit ratings using internal models and methodologies
  • Prepare and present credit reports and applications to internal committees

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary degree in finance or related discipline (minimum Second-Class Upper or equivalent)
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in credit analysis within a financial institution or similar consulting/auditing environment
  • Strong background in financial and business risk modelling
  • Understanding of financial market products, especially derivatives

Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Practical knowledge of the Nigerian macroeconomic landscape and its impact on businesses
  • Understanding of taxation related to corporates and financial institutions
  • Familiarity with financial instruments and derivative structures
  • Knowledge of credit rating models, portfolio theory, and credit pricing
  • Understanding of the Companies Act, IFRS, Basel II & III, and other regulatory standards

Key Competencies

  • Deep understanding of sector-specific risks (regulatory, legal, financial)
  • Strong insight into the bank’s risk appetite and risk grading methods
  • Ability to structure transactions with appropriate risk mitigation strategies
  • Awareness of global lending market trends and credit policy evolution
  • Experience in evaluating vanilla and exotic derivatives
